Academics doing what they do I suppose, but this strikes me as a colossal waste of energy on McDonald's part though. After years of being ignored it probably feels good to McDonald to finally have a stand-up, open fight over his work with his detractors, even if it seems pointless to the rest of us, because it's always better to be attacked than to be ignored, in academic circles anyhow.
